Jim Goren, CFA, MBA, CGA
Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager

Jim Goren is a co-founder, and senior portfolio manager at DaVinci. He specializes in opportunities in the Materials and Technology sectors as well as advising on private debt, hedge funds and real estate strategies. Read More >

Prior to DaVinci, Jim co-founded Marconi Ventures, a USD 100 million venture capital fund based in Boston, Massachusetts with Marconi Communications, a global telecom equipment vendor. At Marconi Ventures, Jim identified and led private equity investments in a number of emerging technology companies in North America and Europe.

Jim has also served as a senior financial executive for several leading firms in the telecommunications, technology and oil and gas sectors, including various positions as a Chief Financial Officer. He has accumulated over 23 years of international experience in corporate finance and capital markets including assignments in the US, UK, Russia and the Ukraine.

Jim received his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Schulich School of Business at York University in 1990; his professional accounting designation (CGA) in 1996; and his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2001. He is a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts and CFA Institute.

Mark Irwin, CFA
Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager

Mark Irwin is a founding principal at DaVinci, as well as being a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager. He has 19 years of experience performing research and financial analysis, and providing strategic guidance on structuring portfolios. Read More >

After working for several independent financial advisory firms, Mark founded Integrated Financial Consultants in 1999. The firm focused on structuring absolute return portfolios through the use of alternative investments. In 2005, Mark co-founded GI Capital Corp, a discretionary investment management firm.

Since 2000, Mark has trailblazed the sourcing, researching and analyzing of alternative investment strategies, including private debt and equity, hedge funds, real estate, and other niche strategies in Canada and the US.

Mark received his Bachelors degree in Economics from Queen's University in 1993. Between 1995 and 1998, Mark completed the Canadian Securities Course, the Professional Financial Planning Course and the Certified Financial Planning Course, and was awarded the CFP designation in 1998. In 2000, he became a Chartered Financial Analyst, and he is a member of the CFA Institute.

Bill C. Hallman, CFA
Analyst and Associate Portfolio Manager

Bill Hallman brings 20 years of active wealth management experience to the DaVinci Investment Committee. At DaVinci, he specializes in short side inefficiences, US and European equities, and the public debt of those corporations. Read More >

Experienced on both the buy side and sell side of Bay Street, Bill worked as an equity and fixed income analyst at McDonald Investment Management. He has also covered consumer services and consumer non durable companies in both the developed world and the emerging markets. Throughout his travels he has visited many businesses in Europe, the US and Mexico. He was also responsible for the structuring and running of a global macro futures overly for a long short market neutral hedge fund. In addition to investment security selection, Bill spent several years at an IDA brokerage firm as a Branch Manager and Investment Advisor, servicing individual clients and managing the branch’s compliance.

Bill obtained his Charted Financial Analyst designation in 1994 and holds diplomas in accounting and securities administration. He has completed the Commodity Futures Trading Course, the Canadian Securities Course, the Branch Managers Course and the Partners, Directors and Officers exams.
